And here’s my verdict – by all 100 percent and more! Each and every of our tests shows that the Raptor X is sharpened for work in a single-user environment in which it really looks much better than its closest opponents. |

Overall the Western Digital Raptor X is definitely not one for quiet PC users, as the 10,000RPM speeds make this drive whine like a small turbocharger at times and if you put this into a small enclosure, you will find the drive overheating very quickly. |

The reason why the Raptor-X actually is unrivaled is the total lack of competition in this high performance desktop space. Seagate may have some potential due to the recent acquisition of Maxtor, but the current Barracuda 7200.8 and 7200.9, as well as the Maxtor portfolio, simply aren't good enough |

We can't say enough about the Raptor WD1500, the drives are just that good. With comparatively higher costs versus many 7200 RPM drives, to the tune of almost 2 times the price in some case, we'll have to stop short of a perfect score for the new Western Digital Raptor WD1500 series but you can be |

We don't hand out Editor's Choice awards often here at TR, but the Raptor X is deserving for a number of reasons. For starters, it's by far the fastest Serial ATA hard drive around. As if that weren't enough, Western Digital had the engineering prowess—and nerve—to put a window in it. Finally, and p |

If you're into gaming or the media center PC thing, and you're not sure those extra MB/s at the top end justify spending twice as much money, springing for a bigger drive might make more sense. Typical desktop usage patterns usually involve transferring large chunks of data, and even heavy multitask |

Both the Raptor X and the standard Raptor 150 GB are welcome upgrades from the Rapot 74 GB model we had grown so attached to. By doubling the capacity on the drives Western Digital made using the Raptor drives as a system drive even more inviting for those users with large storage space tastes. Th |

Other than adding a clear window Western Digital did also make a number of other changes over the previous Raptor models. This drive features a 10,000 RPM spin speed and doubles the capacity to 150 GB. Since these are the high end Western Digital drives they come with a 5-year warranty that covers d |

Have to admit, The visual of this drive was a factor in my purchase. I was looking for a low to mid capacity drive as my primary OS & programs drive. Mounted this in a 5.25 bay with a Scythe anti vibration kit and it's been pretty much silent and running a consistent 34 deg with conventional low RPM case fans in stock locations.

I purchased 2 of these drives to use in raid 0 as my system drive. I'm very pleased with the performance; I get around 135MB/s with 8ms access time in raid 0, its great. These drives are not only fast buy amazingly they run quite cool, even cooler than my 4x750gb drives which are lower rpm.

Fastest drive ever. It makes all the difference in games and with windows. Everything you throw at it will just load instantly. The drive looks nice, and doesn't run hot at all and I can't hear a thing. I'm REALLY happy with this drive so far and theres a lot of space on it considering it's more of an OS type of drive than a storage one. Sure it's expensive but when you want the best, you pay for it. Well worth the money in my opinion. Would never settle for a 7200RPM drive ever again for my OS.

The Raptor has very obvious strengths and weaknesses. While I don't think it's for everyone, I do think it is for most people. Let's discuss the drive's weaknesses first.

Great little drive. Incredibly speedy but not as fast as the 74GB model unfortunately. Got it at a steal for $224 when it was $330 I can't really complain there. If you're looking for a super fast drive that isn't running on a SCSI, this is for you.
