Amazing new technology The BenQ FP241W Z is the world's first LCD monitor to incorporate PerfectMotion dynamic video processing technology. PerfectMotion heralds a new era for LCD monitors by eliminating ghosting and motion blur around the screen edges—for a clearly superior viewing experience with all types of video content. Furthermore, the FP241W Z's use of HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) means support for video resolutions up to 1080p HD. Now, without setting foot outside your front door, you can enjoy the very latest digital content—like music, movies, photos, and television—without compromises to quality. Moreover, Senseye technology combined with high contrast ratios not only allows the FP241W Z to display static images with exquisite clarity, but also ensure video playback that will satisfy the most discriminating viewer. The FP241W Z can serve not only as a personal digital entertainment center, but as the centerpiece in your digital lifestyle. The widescreen design lets you display two independent A4-size windows so that you can keep up with your work and delight yourself with video entertainment at the same time. By blurring the distinction between work and play, the FP241W Z gives new meaning to the phrase “enjoying work.” And what's more, you can freely adjust the height, horizontal positioning, and orientation of the screen panel. It's also easy to connect webcams and other peripherals via the built-in USB ports so you can add even more fun to your digital life. If you value the convenience and delights or a digital lifestyle, the FP241W Z is a valuable enhancement to that lifestyle. Exclusive PerfectMotion technology BenQ's exclusive Advanced Motion Accelerator (AMA) technology accelerates the rotational speed of liquid crystals in the screen panel by increasing the voltage, making it possible to shorten the grey-to-grey response time. This is enough to effectively most ghosting effects in video displayed on LCD monitors. However, even if this response time is reduced to zero, in highly dynamic video, motion blur around screen edges will still occur.

The following process occurs when a screen image is rendered on a display screen:
The figure shows that the LCD monitor screen image perceived by a person is affected both by the human visual system and the way the LCD processes the input signal. Processing of input signal by the LCD is in turn affected by the rendering method and response time. The rendering process of LCD monitor is Hold-type Display. According to VESA (video electronics standard association), they define Hold-type Display as “A hold-type LCD monitor is one in which pixels state (ideally, indefinitely) until switched a different state. Many LCD monitors employ this kind of technology”.
The purple arrow in the figure indicates a transition from on to off. Each pixel's luminance increases or decreases in intensity. First, in response to voltage, the pixel increases in luminance. Because the backlighting module is always illuminated, pixels will maintain a base level of luminance. As the screen image changes, each pixel will either increase or decrease in luminance. After it maintains this level of luminance for a particular interval of time, it will then once again weaken. As a result, the screen image displayed on an LCD panel will exhibit slight blurring compared to the original image. We also know from studies of the human visual system that human eyes automatically adjust to the luminance changes in moving objects over time. This effect is called “smooth pursuit tracking” or “spatial-temporal integration”, with the latter term suggesting the ability to integrate the spatial and temporal changes in luminance. During such a rendering process, when the LCD monitor transitions from screen image #1 to screen image #2, the luminance of each pixel undergoes a stepwise change. A person's vision will combine these two images during a short interval of time before fully shifting to screen image #2. During the time when the images are combined, the viewer will perceive ghosting effects in the video displayed by the monitor. To give an example, if a pattern of alternating black and white areas is moved from left to right, our visual systems will combine the black and white appearing in a particular area of the screen, and we will perceive a grey ghosting effect.
The figure below shows an example of this blurring.
How can we minimize the ghosting artifacts that humans perceive in video rendered on an LCD screen? From the rendering process, we know that both the human visual system and the LCD monitor itself affect what we perceive visually. However, because we cannot change the way our visual system works, we must resolve the ghosting problem by focusing on the LCD monitor. Ghosting on the LCD screen will in turn be affected by the rendering method and response time of the monitor. From the previous discussion, we know that ghosting effects cannot be completely eliminated by adjusting the response time. Therefore, we must modify the way the LCD monitor renders video if we hope to make a substantive improvement. BenQ has developed its exclusive PerfectMotion technology, which dramatically improves the problem of ghosting in dynamic video displayed on LCD monitors by modifying the way video is processed.
PerfectMotion works at the level of screen image rendering. PerfectMotion inserts a black signal image between two consecutive screen images. The human visual system automatically combines each screen image with the all-black field during the transition between two images, with ghosting artifacts cloaked by the black screen image. If one were to represent this process graphically, As the screen image transitions from frame #1 to frame #3, the white column in frame #1 shrinks in height. Each frame is displayed for 1/60th of a second.
Without PerfectMotion technology (In the figure, frame #1 is displayed from time n to n+1, frame #2 from time n+1 to n+2, and frame #3 from n+2 to n+3.) Without PerfectMotion technology present, the viewer will perceive blurring of the displayed video because the human visual system automatically combines the two frames before it can adjust to the transition between them. Therefore, between the display of frame #1 and frame #3, a human viewer will perceive a grey area that corresponds to white area in the former that is no longer present in the latter.
With PerfectMotion technology With PerfectMotion technology present, the intervening black frame largely, or even completely, cancels out the blur effect. Therefore, the grey area that was originally perceived without PerfectMotion present is diminished so that the viewer no longer sees the “ghosting” effect.
In addition, to ensure that the display time for each frame is not affected when PerfectMotion technology is applied, the monitor first uses AMA technology to reduce the gray-to-gray response time before inserting a black frame between each pair of frames from the source video. This approach resolves the problem of ghosting without compromising video playback quality. To sum up, BenQ's PerfectMotion technology uses two steps to effectively counter the ghosting problem. The first step is the reduce the grey-to-grey response time using AMA technology, and the second step is to eliminate the artifacts present on hold-type displays due to the human visual system's smooth pursuit tracking by inserting an all-black field between each frame. The FP241W Z is the first LCD monitor to feature BenQ's exclusive PerfectMotion technology, making it the best choice for improving video display qualify and satisfying your expectations of the best possible viewing experience. Full HD format support
Unlike conventional LCD monitors, the FP241W Z features complete HD support, so you can enjoy the most dazzlingly video possible. Experience lifelike video with all your new generation electronics, such as the latest game consoles and HD DVD players.
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) HDMI not only enables 5Gbps data transfers, but eliminates the need for signal conversions, ensuring the best quality video. In addition, unlike other high-performance displays, the FP241W Z uses only a single HDMI cable, which carries the best quality video signals. The result is less clutter and much easier instanllation.

Doesnt seem fully impartial as it grades the screen perfectly and reports just abouts no flaws, but its still the first review. Focuses more on design and functions than performance. |

The BenQ FP241W is a great all-round monitor. It will easily work well with gaming but has the versatility to adapt to any video signal you can pump into it. The only complaints we have is the exclusion of a speaker system and the price tag which, while consistent with its competitors, is still quit |

BenQ has pumped out a fantastic product at a decent price point, and it’s to be commended for the effort. Now allow hardware one-to-one scaling, make the base heavier and move your buttons to the front, and you have yourself a perfect product and a hot award coming your way. |

Two dead pixels: blue pixel, one all color pixel. I should have stuck with my usual of ordering Samsung monitors.

BenQ and NCIX stand behind what they sell. I give them credit for that. This monitor is an example of a great idea gone wrong. It has all those extra inputs, but they cannot do proper 4:3 aspect ratio. It is already EOL for this monitor and there is no fix in sight. Buy this strictly as a computer monitor and you are alright.

This panel is beautiful. Having seen it vs. the Dell 2408WFP up close, this monitor beats it hands down. The finish on the panel is unique from what I've seen as well, kind of a cross between a glossy and matte. It's more matte than glossy, but still shinier than what you've normally seen. I'm of a mind that it helps the colours to pop - on that note, I didn't have to touch the settings out of the box, it was already great.

this is a beautiful monitor. the stand is solid, the bezel is thin and clean, the colors are great out of the box, the preset picture modes work well, and best of all i got no dead pixels.

Picked this baby up to replace my old 19" CRT. Boy, I am pleased with it. Only have one stuck defective red pixel but its not that noticible. The stand is sturdy, there are tons of inputs, including HDMI, and the picture quality is great. Too bad they discontinued this line or else I'd pick up another.

In all the reviews I read about this monitor, the one complaint everyone seemed to have was with the buttons being on the side. Personally, I think this is a great place to put them because it means you don't need to put any text on the front of the frame which leaves it looking very simple and elegant. Plus, after using the monitor long enough, you begin to remember where each button is without having to crane your neck around to the side.

This monitor was the first to offer all kinds of inputs on a quality panel for a bargain price. The recent addition of TN panels have made this monitor less interesting because the 24 inches TN are an improvement over the 22 inches, closer in quality to the MVA panels.

This is a great monitor. Too bad there are only open boxes left. Anyways, I only had 1 dead, 1 stuck pixel, and to be honest, it is hard for me to notice them in games/movies. The picture quality and viewing angles are great. I love how easy it is to turn the monitor without moving the base.

This is an excellent monitor. Unfortunately, they're not making any more of these because the industry is shifting towards TN panels. Too bad.

I must have purchased one of the last and I'm so happy I did. The September '07 build must be the fix. I have 0 dead/stuck/bright pixels. I used the supplied DVI-D cable and have not experienced the "blackout" issue. Heat? This monitor does not generate any more heat than my previous LCD and I have not noticed any noise from the PCB that others have posted. Final word, if you can still find this monitor, do yourself a favor and buy it before they are all gone!
