MCR-220 "Quiet Power" series Radiator

Designed in the USA
One or more Patents Pending

Introduction

The MCR220-QP (Quiet Power™) is an extreme-duty liquid-to-air heat exchanger designed to be used with two 120mm fans, and specifically engineered for high-end liquid cooled Personal Computers. The Quiet Power™ technology is the result of months of research and development focused on optimizing thermal performance and audible noise characteristics with low to medium airflow types of fans.

The MCR220 -QP heat exchangers have been engineered to meet today's PC industry highest thermal loads, quality standards, and low noise requirements at competitive prices.

A single 120mm version of the MCR220-QP is also available here.

Features and Benefits

High Performance
Low noise
Dual 120mm fan form factor doubles the surface area available for convection of the heat into the air compared to single 120mm fan designs. The Quiet Power design yields superior performance compared to competing products in the same class. Optimized for 120mm fans with low to medium air output.
Flat brass tubes and copper louvered fins, with brass plenum chambers and frame construction, for optimum thermal conductivity. Fin density optimized to reduce air noise.
Flat frame surface provides optimum seal to the fans. Built-in plenum chamber.
Convenience, Reliability, Quality, Competitive Prices
G1/4 threaded hubs, for maximum compatibility with various tubing installations.
Patent-pending Self purging plenum chambers design: when installed upright or on its side, air cannot accumulate in the plenum chambers.
Threaded fan and case mounting holes for quick and repeated installations.
Slim design to facilitate installation, and reduce bulk.
No oxidation over time (compared to aluminum radiators).
Beautiful and durable gloss acrylic paint finish.
Competitive pricing with same class radiators (single row, 2 pass).

Performance Graphs

For reference, the MCR220-QP dual 120mm radiator shows ~50% less pressure drop than the MCR120-QP single fan version.

Click picture to zoom in - Higher is better

In the above curves, we show the heat dissipation performance of the MCR220-QP with our Delta M class 120mm fan running at 12, 7 and 5 Volt. For additional reference, we also show: a high-flow/high noise Delta HE class fan, and a low flow/low noise Papst fan. Estimated (*) noise levels are also indicated.

We can see in these curves that good gains can be made from increasing the flow rates.
In a Swiftech system flowing ~1.5 GPM we observe that with the Delta 1212M fans running at 7v, 200 Watts -corresponding to a typical high-end dual CPU configuration for example, can be dissipated with a mere 10°C temperature rise of the coolant over ambient air, and that this is accomplished at a Noise level of ~30 db(A). We can use the next set of curves below to predict what would happen if we were to add a couple of high-end graphic cards to the system in SLI mode.

Click picture to zoom in - Lower is better

The above curves are very similar to waterblock C/W data and can be interpreted in the same fashion. They will allow users to estimate the temperature rise of the water in the circuit, based on the coolant flow rate.

We can use the curve of the Delta 1212M running at 7 volt to illustrate how to calculate the coolant temperature rise over ambient air. Assuming for example a loop flowing ~1.5 GPM, and a dual CPU heat load of 200 Watts + dual GPU (graphics) of 120 Watts = 320 Watts total, at 7v the C/W of the radiator is 0.05 and the coolant temperature rise above ambient would be 320 Watts x 0.05 = 16°C. This data clearly demonstrates the vast amount of headroom being available with the MCR220-QP heat exchanger.

I am currently using this rad with a swiftech mcp655, micro res and 2 yateloons. It is cooling 2x3870x2's with ek fc blocks and so far even in the humidity my max temps under full load are 56c and 57c. In my opinion that is excellent for such a thin rad with only 2 fans.       » READ MORE

Used in conjunction with a DBX-1 pump, swiftech reservoir and Apogee GTX. Leak testing currently. The rad is attached to the top of my Cosmos (screwed in 1 fan mount).       » READ MORE

This is a great rad, I did notice that within the reservoirs where the barbs go there does appear to be tarnished copper or some other foreign substance but no issues so far. Strapped 2 Scythe Ultra Kaze 3K fans to this, ran into the issue of the fans not fitting with the included straight through bolts, had to literally strap the fans on till I can pick up some longer screws. All around high recommended      » READ MORE

Great rad and does a great job cooling my NB and GPU loop. I mounted it on the ceiling of my coolermaster cosmos case but it did not line up with the 2 x 120mm fan holes on the case so I lined it up with just one and only used 4 screws instead of eight. It still works great, no complaints and I would recommend it to anybody.      » READ MORE
