displayVideo('918TV7742', 60, "true"); BEST-IN-CLASS FEATURES The D-Link Xtreme N™ Gigabit Router (DIR-655) is a draft 802.11n compliant device that delivers up to 14x faster speeds* and 6x farther range* than 802.11g while staying backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices. Connect the Xtreme N Gigabit Router to a cable or DSL modem and provide high-speed Internet access to multiple computers, game consoles, and media players. Create a secure wireless network to share photos, files, music, videos, printers, and network storage.
The Works with Vista Logo ensures compatability for your networking devices Powered by Xtreme N™ technology and equipped with three external antennas, this router provides superior wireless coverage for larger homes and offices, or for users running bandwidth-intensive applications. The DIR-655 also includes a 4-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit switch that connects Gigabit wired devices for enjoying lag-free network gaming and faster file transfers.
D-Link’s Intelligent QoS Technology - WHY INTELLIGENT QoS IS BETTER With some routers, all wired and wireless traffic, including VoIP, Video Streaming, Online Gaming, and Web browsing are mixed together into a single data stream. By handling data this way, applications like video streaming could pause or delay. With D-Link’s Intelligent QoS Technology, wired and wireless traffic is analyzed and separated into multiple data streams. These streams are then categorized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP, Video Streaming, and Online Gaming are given priority over Web browsing. This enables multiple applications to stream smoothly to your TV or PC.
ADVANCED NETWORK SECURITY The Xtreme N Gigabit Router supports the latest wireless security features to help prevent unauthorized access, be it from over a wireless network or from the Internet. Support for WEP™, WPA™, and WPA2™ standards ensure that you will be able to use the best possible encryption regardless of your client devices. In addition, this Xtreme N router utilizes Dual Active Firewalls (SPI and NAT) to prevent potential attacks from across the Internet.
Delivering best-in-class performance, network security, and coverage, the Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655) is the ideal centerpiece for your wireless network in the home or office.
WHAT THIS PRODUCT DOES Create a wireless network to share high-speed Internet access with computers, game consoles, or media players from greater distances in your home or office.
XTREME N™ ROUTER BENEFITS
* Intelligent Wireless Prioritization Technology. * Xtreme N technology allows for farther home coverage*. * Secure your wireless network using advanced WEP™, WPA™, or WPA2™ encryption. * Easy to get started with D-Link’s new Quick Router Setup Wizard. * Supports Good Neighbor Policy – will not interfere with other wireless networks. * Backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices including game consoles and digital media players.
* Maximum wireless signal rate derived from IEEE Standard 802.11g and draft 802.11n specifications. Actual data throughput will vary. Network conditions and environmental factors, including volume of network traffic, buildings materials and construction, and network overhead, lower actual data throughput rate. Environmental factors will adversely affect wireless signal range. Wireless range and speed rates are D-Link RELATIVE performance measurements based on the wireless range and speed rates of a standard Wireless G product from D-Link. Maximum throughput based on D-Link draft 802.11n devices.

It was a breeze to setup. I did setup manually and didn't use the CD, as I find generally those "Wizards" just complicate things. I find that is had all the settings an enthusiast would need, and they were easy to find and work with. The speed of the wireless was pretty good, and the gigibit ethernet (which is why I bought it) was fantastic. All the reviews I have seen rate this product as solid, with very few cases of the product dying. This is not the case with some other similar products (Netgear Rangemax Next WIRELESS-N Router I'm looking at you).

The only thing wrong with this router is that I can't see who is using the bandwidth. I bought it to supply teh webs to a house of 7 people, and one is sniping all our web dls. The best I can do is check the active sessions and see how many people have open...

Compatibility with Shaw was an issue for about a month+, there is a new firmware out, but IT IS FIXED NOW. (so not really a weakness anymore)

I have problem with QoS engine. I regularly download large files from one of my FTP severs. If the QoS engine is disabled, my download speed is always around 200-300 KB/s. However, if the QoS is enabled even if there's no custom QoS rule defined, my download speed will gradually drop to 30-60 KB/s. Even though there's no other downloading/uploading connections, no voip, and the FTP downloading is the only active connection.

occasionally had problems when restarting the laptop and reconnecting - seemed to hook the router. Otherwise, once stable, excellent performance. Easy to set up, excellent online interface

I am very dissappointed now after spendong many days with tech support trying to set up the router to work at 108mps same as my previous DI 624. I am now told that it will not work at 108 speed. If I want to get it to work faster I need to buy more parts. My range boosters WDA 2320 which I bought to be compatible with Vista are now are now just wasted cash.

The reason why I got this router is for signal strength, and the 3 attenas really improved the signal by like 20% from the classic DLINK. Still the signal isn't high (4 rooms away) but at least I have signal now.

Upgraded from WRT54GS to this at same time as adding a DNS-323 NAS box to my network. Took about 2 minutes to configure the router as a drop-in replacement for my WRT54GS. The ability to backup the config to a PC, upgrade the flash and then restore the config was REALLY handy. No issues so far with 1.05 firmware (fingers crossed).

This is a great router. It was easy to set up and easy to upgrade the firmware and all that. Security was a breeze. The setup and login are much easier to use, understand and just better to look at than my old wireless G and the whole process was easy. Huge increase in the range and signal quality. The only snag I havn't fixed yet is that it seems to be incompatible with my roommate's Mac. Both Wired and Wireless. Got to be the Mac becasue 4 other computer connect no problem!
