This thing is tiny. No really. Its VERY tiny. Unbelievably portable. Doesn't weight too much and has a decent 2.5-3hr battery life. Installing XP was painless with an external DVD drive. XP needed to be n-lited in order to fit on the tiny drive.

I *love* this model of the Eee PC. With the money I saved, I installed a 2GB SODIMM, and I have both an 8GB and a 16GB SDHC that work beautifully. I'm ecstatic about the unit, and I bring it everywhere I go. I've installed Backtrack on the 8GB SDHC card, and it works flawlessly as a wireless testing unit. GPS tracks and location-stamped kismet are wonderful. Unit is fast enough to run compiz cube desktop. Battery life is acceptable considering the size of the battery! .. about 3 hours for me, and that's with the SDHC and bluetooth dongle installed, and WiFi turned on. If you dim the screen and turn off WiFi, battery life is longer.

I was looking for a multimedia player for my intercity trips. Instead of buying a DVD player I bought the EEE. I'm glad I did :). There seems to be a problem with linux when playing movies: every 10 seconds or so the image skip. It gets very annoying. I then install Windows XP, using XPlite to get rid of the unwanted stuff. Works like a charm and with a fast boot time. By installing VLC player I now have a multimedia player that can also do so much more. It's a real computer after all!

All in all, it's a great product, useful, and one that you can keep upgrading. It's made my note-taking in class much simpler than having a bulky laptop. I highly recommend it.

For the price you can't beat it. I have used Sony's UMPC and although it is smaller, it is not as easy to use as a standard computer without an external keyboard and mouse - the eeePC can be a normal computer.

For an ultraportable PC, this thing does a nice job, and at really quite low prices. I was able to install Windows XP on this thing, but I'd really recommend doing it with an 8GB unit.

First things first; the 4G surf has non-soldered ram, and it has an access panel on the back for easy entry. Feel confident to buy this model with future plans to upgrade the RAM.

I love this little laptop! It may not have the latest and greatest in computer technology but it works great! With the SSD drive the boot time is less than 15 seconds. I added an 8GB SDHC card into the built-in slot and now have 12GB total drive space. I also recommend swapping the 512MB SODIMM for a 1GB stick. Feels much more responsive with it. Overall I am very happy with this product. It's great for trips and checking your email and surfing the web when you're away. Plan to mod it in the future.

An external USB mouse that I use is a god-send for regular work. The keyboard takes a little to get used to but is quite functional once you are used to it.
