Battery life at full power and full lcd brightness will last you about 1:15hrs. This laptop will transcode an avi file to dvd and burn it in a half hour or less. Vista runs nice and snappy on it, no wait times here. Will play any game out to date, yes even Crysis. Mind you some settings will have to be put on low but for the most part it'll play with 50/50 med/low settings at 1024x768 with 25+ fps. Asus ships all the drivers you will need to use anything on the laptop as well as a recovery disk. The hard drive is partitioned right down the middle with one drive being named Vista and the other named Data. The optical drive is also quiet while reading a disk. Temperatures are excellent, not even close to danger levels. The multimedia touchpad works perfectly as it should. The talk about the keyboard missing certain keys while typing is not a problem. People complaining about it are only doing so because it's the only fault they can find on this laptop. My only beef with it is the hard drive. I will be installing a 7200rpm eventually but for now the original will have to do. One last thing I'd like to mention is the wireless card. It will easily connect to my Linksys WRT54G wireless connection when I'm a couple hundred feet away from the router. Unbelievable tracking for wireless.

Overall this laptop is an amazing value. Vista gives it a score of 4.8 but that is only for windows aero; all other scores are 5.3/5.4. I would not give this laptop a five because of not only how loud the DVD drive is, but also since I've had more than a few problems with the bundled software. The fingerprint reader doesn't work, and there is also a problem with the supposed ambient light sensor which doesn't allow the backlight to be turned down, shaving off 30 minutes of battery life (the program is called ATKOSD2 or something similar and can easily be disabled in msconfig).

Very pleased with this purchase. The price/performance ratio caught my attention initially and after using this laptop for a few weeks I am very pleased. When compared to a similiarly built D*ll 1525 or 1530 the price advantage is considerable. I find the case to be sturdier than the D*ll's (1525 anyway) and the GPU has twice the memory at 512mb compared to 256mb which should help with current texture laden games. The 9500M GS GPU is a directX 10 capable version of the 8800M GPU used elsewhere with optimizations that supposedly make this GPU approx 10% faster. The T9300 processor is of the new 45 nm process and will give the laptop considerable longevity. It has a noticeable advantage in battery life compared to a Pentium M system with the same battery that we have.

I've had the laptop for a few days now and everything has been working without a problem except for the multi function touch pad. You'll find yourself pushing the buttons a few times for it to work when using it to play media. Tho this isn't such a big deal. The screen is also pretty glossy so you'll see some reflection. As long as you don't have it in direct sun light it should be ok.
