It's my second Asus router RT-N16. The other (same model) lasts for almost 6 years (still working but not stable). So I bought same model to replace the first one. Easy to export settings and import into the new router (exactly same Wireless and port forwarding settings). I recommend it. (Read More)

Bought this primarily to run as a ad-blocker courtesy of EasyTomato. Works like a charm. Router is coming up to 3rd yer which many say likely to expire due to fried transistor. Happy to buy another unit when that happens. (Read More)

So I got this router few years ago (about 3 1/2 years) to install DD-WRT or Tomato on it. I tried both firmwares and decided to stick with Tomato. I never ran on the stock Asus firmware, so I can't comment on it. However, I will not comment on how good the open source firmwares are, but you should give them a go.
