i found through experience that it is much better to buy 2 SATA drives and raid them rather than buying a Raptor. Raiding 2 of these in RAID 0 gave me pretty fast speeds and i got 160Gb to play around with instead of 73 or 36. Very pleased with the results.

Good quiet sata hard drive. I have two of them in raid 0 and they work perfectly making a very fast 149 go HD. It is a great upgrade from my old 40 go ATA hard drive and I would definetely buy it again. Recommend it to anyone who wants quality for a good price.

For the price, this SATA drive is a good value. I've had good experiences with Seagates. I have noticed that this is a faster drive than my old ATA with 2mb cache. I definitely will not use ATA again. One problem is that it was tricky for me to install this drive as the main drive. But then again, it might be me...

Just awesome, have mine in a Raid 0, I shall never go back to IDE HDD again, I love this pair so much that I bought the exact same 2 for my AI7 setup. I had my 1st set for over a year now. They are very silent, fast and reliability is a sure thing with these ;)

I'm using 2 of these drives in a RAID 0 configuration at the moment. Thought they would be as quiet as my other Seagate drives but I was wrong. When at idle, they're as quiet as can be. My old IBM 60GB DeathStar...err...DeskStar drive and Maxtor 60 GB made an annoying high pitch sound when sitting idle - thankfully these new drives(nor any other Seagate drives I've used) don't make that sound. When the drives are being heavily accessed, they can be quiet too, but sometimes they can have a fairly noticable "crunch". I guess it depends on where the data is on the drive. Other than that, they are still great performance wise and of course the 5-year warranty is nice! If you're looking for reliability and good performance in a S-ATA drive, with a low noise floor, this is the way to go. I'd buy these over a comparable Maxtor or WD drive any day.

I bought this drive from NCIX about eight months ago. I worked good for that period until last week. I started to hear some strange sound from the HD.

this is a great drive to put in a system for RAID 0.. it's fast, quiet, and the SATA cables are better for airflow. The 8MB cache and 7400RPM make this drive perform exceptionaly well under any circumstances.

I bought two of these drives to use in RAID 0. I chose Seagate because they make the quietest drives available. Idle noise is very low though still not as low as the Barracuda IV series. Seagate really needs to bring the SeaShield back. Read/write noise is lower than most other drives.
